Wenger: I will not leave!

| August 29, 2011 | 6 Comments

It was a dark day for many Arsenal fans as the gunners were handed a very heavy defeat by a rampant Manchester United. Despite allegations over the future of manager Arsene Wenger, he remained defiant and assured us that he is intending to stay at the helm.

Wenger stated special circumstances contributed greatly to loss saying: “You feel humiliated when you concede eight goals. It was a terrible day for us, it was a combination of an under-strength team and weakness. We collapsed physically in the second half.”

When asked whether he would consider resigning in the International break, he coyly responded: “I believe we have a break before the next game.” then added more seriously: “No, not at all.”

The next three days mark a crucial time for the team, but David Seaman raised some interesting points on the current team posting on Twitter: “When I played for Arsenal we were expected to win trophies this is not good enough, don’t all have a go at the manager ATTITUDE needs to be different !!!”

His former team-mate, Paul Merson, also said on the performance: “It is definitely the worst day for Arsene Wenger in charge and it is even the worst day for a long time in Arsenal’s history. Since I started there in 1984, I cannot remember much worse than what we have seen here. It was shocking, just shocking,”

“There are much lesser teams with much less talent than Arsenal who will come to Old Trafford this season and make it doubly as difficult as they did today.”

There is no doubt I agree with the points both ex-players raise over the attitude of the team, we looked dejected and exhausted. But I also must say the team that was fielded today was a freak occurence, a severely weakened team that should never been expected to go to Old Trafford and grab some points. It was almost a case of lambs to the slaughter, as no strong leaders were available to guide and direct the youngsters around the park.

What do you think? Do you agree with both David Seaman and Paul Merson? Feel free to leave a comment below.

wenger is the right manager for arsenal.sometimes things go wrong but wenger is the right person to restore pride to arsenal.those who say wenger should resign no nothing about football and know nothing of just how bad the situation can be without arsene wenger. arsene, im a man united fan in uganda but truly i love you so much.arsene is much better than mourinho, pep gurdiola, ancheloti and even worldcup winning coaches like fellipe scolari or vicente del bosque.leave wenger alone, just trust him.

The only genuine problem is that the squad is seriously lacking in experience in depth. Just look at who ManU LEFT on their bench for comparison (beyond how our lack of depth was exposed without mercy)…
