Arsenal Rumours: Should we sign Benayoun permanently?

| April 13, 2012 | 15 Comments

Yossi Benayoun has admitted it will be ‘difficult’ to decide his future, but to a certain extent it remains out of his hands as he must report back to Chelsea at the end of Arsenal’s campaign in order to discuss his options.

The Israeli international has impressed in bursts for the Gunners, usually starting in the larger matches with Wenger preferring the more experienced option out wide rather then the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain or Gervinho. But will he become an Arsenal player permanently when his loan deal expires next month?

The 31-year-old has made 16 appearances and scored twice including a fine finish in Wednesday’s 3-0 victory away at Wolves, and despite his tight connection with his parent club Chelsea, he is still 100% focused on Arsenal’s season run-in.

He told The Evening Standard:

I think it is difficult to speak now about the future.

It is better to concentrate on the five weeks that are left and do my best for the club. I am fully committed to Arsenal and after we will see.

After June 30, I am going back to Chelsea and then the club and I need to decide. Each one has to think what is best for them.

I will not lie, I love Chelsea, because I have a good relationship there. I didn’t play much, because I had a big [Achilles] injury.

I still have a lot of friends there I talk to every day. Of course I want them to do well, but it is difficult.

Benayoun has managed to cement a starting spot over the past two matches and is eager for his run in the starting lineup to continue. He knew it was not going to be an easy task to push his way into the starting lineup when he first arrived last summer, but he has certainly warranted more game time recently:

When I came, I believed in myself that I could play more. I knew there are a lot of quality players but I was ready.

It is the job of the manager to decide who plays but because I was so patient and I always give 100 per cent it is now coming right for me.

I came into the team and we beat Manchester City and last night we won and I scored. I really want to keep my place.

He has mainly been a bit-part player for the Gunners, and although his experience has been valuable I find it hard to see Wenger purchasing the midfielder permanently. Benayoun has been useful with Arsenal’s midfield depleted with the past summer’s selling and injuries, but the likes of Oxlade-Chamberlain and Miyaichi will be more exciting options for Arsenal next season.

In saying that, I think I prefer Benayoun over Gervinho at present for the upcoming fixtures as the Israeli is more of a team player and and is able to come inside and conver in the midfield on occasion. But Oxlade-Chamberlain is definitely the most preferred option out wide on the left, with Walcott a sure starter now.

What are your thoughts on the versatile midfielder? Do you think Wenger should make a move for him and bring him back to the Emirates next season permanently? Or should we just thank him and send him on his way? Feel free to comment below..

I’ve always liked Benayoun and it’s pleasing to see that he is recovering his old form, but I don’t think we will sign him, simply because there isn’t enough space in the squad. With Podolski coming and Ryo looking so good at Bolton, as well as Oxlade, Gervinho and Walcott, where would Benayoun fit?
He’d be better off moving imo, but I certainly wouldn’t complain if he stayed on. It does arsenal no harm to have intelligent, talented, enthusiastic and experienced players like him and Rosicky around.

He is far better defensively than any of those wingers so he is a good choice in away games and basically any game where a draw is considered a decent result. Arsene likes to play a more defensively minded winger at times so I think he’ll try to keep him.

He seems to be doing particularly well in games against stronger opposition. Rosicky can play out wide as well to similar effect. All-being well, we will have more CMs available so Tomas can play out wide when required, and it appears he’s grooming Ramsey to play there as well.
As I say, I’d be pleased if we decided to keep him around, but I’d be surprised, particularly if there’s any truth to the Dempsey or M’vila rumours.

Is the price still £5m which is what we originally quoted? lets be honest hoilett for half a mill and 40k a week or yossi for 5m and 70k a week its got to be the much younger man.
It also all depends on how we are to play. currently our new 4132 formation is still quite new. it suits us more than 433 or 4231 as we have no natural wingers and with song holding deeper on his own it allows the full backs to push on particularly down the left. it also gives theo a more central role and the lop sided ness of our game is causing others concern. it explains why rvp is assisting rather than scoring of late (penalty exclude) i still think wenger wants to play 4213 and when podolski arrives that is what he will dowith walcott rvp podolski up top.

I think we should get somebody like dempsey & m’vila.Though I like benayoun but a MF of wilshere/arterta/song/rosisky/dempsey/m’vila-will scarcely have a place for benayoun.Rumours have it that poldi & vert are coming, hope its true.

I think we should sign him only if we sell Arshavin. Benayoun is much better squad player than Arshavin and he tracks back to help the defense. Remember that slide tackle he made against Man city to prevent a cross after running from midfield to cover for gibbs. Thats what he brings to the team Arshavin would never make such a run from midfield to block a cross in defense. So thats why i think we should keep him and sell Arshavin. Gerv and Ryo will compete for the LW pos. While walcott and Ox for the RW pos. RVP and Podolski for CF pos. While Park and Benayoun sand Vela serve as cover for any offensive player that gets injured.

Chamack Arshavin Bendtner Denilson Squillaci Almunia should be sold. If we sign Vertonghen or Mvilla then Diaby or Djorou should also be sold. Also if Wilshere comes back and we sign Eriksen or another CAM then Ramsey should go on loan.

    Thats just my opinion.

YESSSS!!!! we need his experience for big games that the OX and Ryo might not be able to cope with. Wenger always use him for big games if we have all been taking notice. Also until Podolski start copimg with the EPL, we need Yossi to hang around.

  • Adepoju Adeyemi

Arsenal really need experienced player like BENAYOUN in the midfield bbcos he is technically talented with skill, pace & performed wonders when it matters. Wenger shud sign him permanent in case of injury crises that might occur later on . UP GUNNERS……. For life

  • OnDGooner

No!! Chelsea, Liverpool reject? Runs around a lot and doesn’t do anything else out of the ordinary! No, No, No!!!!

  • kiki

yes, wenger should sign him on a permanent basis.he plays so well, better than ramsey.

  • Zeph Nandwa

Sign him wenger,he is good on the ball, clever with the ball, good in passing the ball and i believe he is better than ramsy en gevihno is given more playing time

  • Emmanuel Godwin

Arsenal should sign bennayoun on a permanent deal,Bennayoun is a good player with alot of this season he has show a class nd the stuff he is made off, a game winner.i think arsenal should sign it.thanks

  • Essien Arikpo

Wel said by u lot! I think ramsey should be painstakingly sold while we pray his sale doesnt come back to bite us! First team wingers: walcott and chamberlain, second team wingers: Gervinho and ryo(ive noticed that gervinho plays much better wen he plays right(walcotts) wing than playing left). Keep benayoun to give experience to ryo and ox in dat left wing. Rosicky and wishere to fight for the central playmaker role, AND THEN We can bost of having two strong teams! Ashavin, ramsey, bentner, scquilaci, vela, chamack, alumnia, fabianski, manone, sold! Podoski, verthoghen, al habsi(wigans keeper) BOUGHT! Trophy(s) next season guaranteed!!

  • onuoha

He is a good player than ramsey. We need him as more of a squad player. Wenger buy him.

  • Richheart

His positivity, team-spirit and maturity, offers a season or two of a super squad player. When BigG or the Ox need someone to help them up, even Theo, Benayoun has the character for it. He was once a precocious teenager, he can empathize.
He has 5 years on Giggs and could give the team a real boost
