Robin van Persie receives golden boot award & will open talks this week

| May 15, 2012 | 11 Comments

Robin van Persie has recieved yet another award to top off his best season yet as he has managed to pip both Sergio Augero and Wayne Rooney to the Premier League Golden Boot trophy.

The Dutchman netted an impressive 30 league goals in 37 games with Rooney’s 27 goal haul the next closest. Van Persie was also only one goal off equaling the Premier League record of 31 goals in a 38 game season which is currently jointly held by Christiano Ronaldo and Alan Shearer, but he failed to find the net in the Gunners final match against West Brom.

The Arsenal captain can add his latest accolade to the PFA Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards he received this season, and can be proud that he is written into the Arsenal history books after becoming the seventh (third in the post-war era) Arsenal player to reach the illusive 30 league goal mark in a season.

But now the attention turns to his contract talks with Wenger and the Gunners hierarchy, and goal.com have revealed that this is set to happen on Wednesday. RVP said:

We will have a chat next week and we will go from there

While rumours are suggesting Arsenal’s talisman and star striker will head off to Spain or move to newly crowned Premier League champions Manchester ‘Money bags’ City, I think he will safely be in our hands next season with a new contract announced this week. He’s an Arsenal player through and through, he also doesn’t have ‘Real Madrid’ or ‘Barcelona DNA’ like in Cesc’s case.

Does everyone agree that RVP is staying? Feel free to leave a comment below or discuss it in the new allArsenal.com forum here. Remember to sign-up and comment to go into WIN a 2012/13 Arsenal home shirt!

RVP is going to be a gooner for life like his former compatriot Arsenal Legend Dennis Benkarmp.AWenger must make his stay a success by buying big players immediately.

Very few strikers are footballers in the true sense of the word (Messi is an exception). The most effective concentrate on being in the right place at the right time and being fed by those behind them. Timing not footwork is their main asset. RVP is no different.

Robyn has adapted well from being a second striker to becoming a centre forward but in doing so he has become a little predictable. The midfielders have now learned he likes to drift to the left and shoot at an angle (being a left footer) but so has the oppostion.

The ideal ball seems to be on the ground about 4 maybe 5 metres outside the left upright and just on the edge of the box.
Should the opposition allocate two maybe three players to cover this area plus a man at the far post for the cross they have a good chance of closing him down or neutralizing him.

The other noticeable point is he still takes corners like he did as a second striker but now he`s a centre forward surely his place is in the box.

With the introduction of Podolski next season things could change, we could even see a 4-4-2 formation from time to time, we`ll just have to wait and see.

My feeling is he`ll still be at Emirates, Mrs van Persie will see to that. lol

I think RVP won’t leave now and he may not sign more than 3years deal but wenger needs to sign big players like we have podolski atleast to win a trophy next season. RVP is happy in Arsenal but he needs trophy. If we win trophies, he (RVP) will stay in Arsenal for life. But wenger need to do what he had to to win trophy.

His wife and mother have expressed their love for life in London and the fact that he will surely factor in the feelings of his family in any decision he will take. With a likely improved contract offered by Arsenal, I think he will stay.

RVP is by far different from players that left arsenal during the last transfer window. Take a look at fabregas and nasri … i doubt if they are not willing to come back to arsenal. RVP unlike fabregas is not just an ordinary captain, he is more than a leader as you can see from the passion with which he gives his all for the club. I will bet my last money on him staying because he is different from his predecessor (fabregas): he loves the club and fans too. Wenger must do quick and good business in the transfer market to convince RVP to say. M’villa will be a good addition and a couple of players out am sure will convince RVP we mean business this time. UP GUNNERS!!! Gunner 4 life
