Arsenal News: Walcott latest casualty ahead of season opener

| August 15, 2012 | 3 Comments

Theo Walcott is the latest Gunner to withdraw from the upcoming international friendly fixtures, with the England winger suffering from a bruised thigh.

The upcoming friendlies are essentially exhibition matches, with England’s match against Italy scheduled for tomorrow night in Switzerland, but Walcott now joins fellow Arsenal team-mate Oxlade-Chamberlain in missing the trip to Berne, as he fights an ankle injury.

Wenger will be worried with this season’s opener against Sunderland fast approaching, and Koscielny staying in London after suffering a calf injury against FC Cologne, however it remains to be seen whether any of these injuries are anything substantial as their withdrawals could just be precautionary.

Walcott reported for international duty on Monday despite suffering from a bruised thigh, and the injury has not subsided enough, so he will be returned to Arsenal headquarters to prepare for this weekend.

A statement on the FA website said:

Walcott reported with a slightly bruised thigh and was unable to train fully, so has returned to his club as a precaution.

Hopefully the injury he has sustained, along with Chambo’s and Koscienly’s, are minor and they will be available for selection this weekend. It does not sound too serious, especially if his thigh only ‘slightly’ bruised, and we should still expect the pacy winger to take to the field this weekend at the Emirates.

Nothing to worry about. Most likely is just a ploy by wenger to keep players from risking themselves to injury before the season starts.

Thank God these injuries to the three players (Walcot, Koscielny and Chambalain) are not serious; slightly bruised tight, slight calf and ankle. Their withdrawal as officialy described is precautional. Hopefully, they will be fit for the opener against Sunderland, so there is no cause for alarm. Besides, the squad is loaded with potential match starters and winners. The situation this season is very encouraging and assuring. Good omen and cap doved for Wenger.
