Arsenal Rumours: Gunners miss out on Mirallas but Llorente’s available!

| August 20, 2012 | 16 Comments

The Gunners have missed out on Belgian international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiakos, as the highly rated forward has officially signed for Everton on a permanent deal. But there is still hope that Arsene Wenger can still bring in a big name striker this window with Athletic Bilboa’s Fernando Llorente left out of his sides squad as he seeks a departure from the La Liga side.

With Van Persie’s exit finalized last week and the (ridiculous) departure of Alex Song about to be completed in the coming days, Arsenal need to reinvest the funds in a top class forward to add more quality to the front line.

Many Gooners were hoping their French manager would swoop in for Miralles who netted an impressive 20 goals in 25 games last season for Olympiakos, but Everton managed to pull what could be one of the coups of the summer by signing the Belgian hit man for a cheap £6m.

However a strange twist of events may make the €18m rated Spanish star Fernando Llorente available after Bilboa manager Marcelo Bielsa left his main striker out of his squad for the match against Real Bettis.

The La Liga clubs manager stated at his prematch conference:

Nobody ever said that I’d leave if Llorente and Martinez went. I am satisfied with the team with or without Llorente. It is a difficult situation, because all the positions are understandable.

Llorente is exercising his rights, while the club and the fans are understandable too, aside from the method of the protest which I do not share.

The Spaniard, similarly to Van Persie, has entered the final year of his contract with Bilboa and has refused to extend his deal. Juventus are circling after missing out on the Gunners ex captain after they failed with a €16m bid for Llorente, but this could be Wenger’s chance to bring in another Spanish star after the hugely successful arrival of Santi Cazorla.

The media have hyped up the lack of impact made by Giroud and Podolski after the opening match on Saturday, however they are top class forwards that will go a long way in strengthening with the loss of RvP, but with funds available and the Gunners midfield stacked, another striker is a must.

Llorente would be a brilliant acquisition, he is available at a very decent price and is at the perfect age of 27 meaning he has a wealth of experience and is approaching the physical peak of his career. If Arsenal want to win something this season we will need more attacking force up front, and I would welcome the purchase of the Spaniard over another midfielder (even M’Vila).

What do you guys think? Could this really happen? Or even if it could, do you think Wenger should be bringing in cover for the departed Alex Song? Feel free to comment below or in the allArsenal forum under Llorente’s thread. Register and Comment to go into the draw to win an Arsenal Away Shirt!

Sir wenger i can no longer wait 2 c d arriv al of fernando llorent e

Think Llorente is too similar a player to Giroud (although, of course, more talented). Would rather see someone like Jovetic arrive.

    • Patrick Ssekatawa

I don’t know about Llorente being more talented than Giroud. A striker is judged by the number of goals he scores, his link up play and movement on and off the ball. Llorente may share all the above similarities, bar goal-scoring, because Giroud is a better scorer!
Take a look at these stats below:

      AGE: 27

      AGE: 25
      GAMES: 217
      GOALS: 93
Basing on the above facts, you can clearly see that Giroud is a better scorer, having scored his goals in a shorter time being younger, averaging a goal every 2.33 games, while Llorente averages a goal every 2.67 games. So, Llorente “of course more talented”? Wide of the mark, my friend!

fernado lorente is a good buy for arsenal.and song should be replaced

  • udom

ln my opinion we need a defensive midfielder like Yann Mvilla having losed Alex Song to barcelona, cos if someone is not brought in to replacie Song, definitely a vaccum would be created and the defensive strength will reduced. Having losed Robin Van8 Persie to Man Utd, llorente is the kind of striker we need in our team if we are to challenge for the title this season. He is a great finisher and would be a good addition to our squad.

Sahin is coming on loan as a replacement for Song. Llorente should deffinatly be bought by Arsenal. Him and Cazorla will compine well. And also if permenant deal possible for sahin after loan spell then Mr. Wenger should by him.
Cazorla’s right “Be quick and find a replacement” before Tottenham get llorente

buying a player that tormented man utd after they just took RVP is the right thing to do. follow me @kyekye45 ill follow back

I think sahin would be a great buy and nurture him n hopefully sign him to a permanent next season. Mvila is a lot more bigger n stronger than Sahin.. Just the kind of player we need to push around n enforce the middle of the park.. He is a no nonsense def mid.. Unlike song. I wouldn’t mind seeing Etienne Capoue either, he is a tall n strong lad with good skill on the ball.. Seems highly unlikely wenger will buy another forward.. We have a lot of versatile players who can play upfront.. Though we can all be greedy n keep our fingers n toes crossed n hope wenger does go for him.

I am really tired of these articles saying the lack of impact the new forwards had in the FIRST GAME!!!!!! How many goals did RvP score against newcastle in the opener last year. How many did he score in the first five games???? Give it a freaking rest. It is really getting old. One game in and all the fake fans are doom and gloom

If you read the article fully you will notice I wrote:

I’m certainly not saying that the new signings aren’t good enough, but with the departure of van persie we need more than two strikers. Podolski or Giroud will go through injuries at some point this season so Arsenal need to have more depth up front and more competition in the squad. The season is a long, grueling one and to be able to rotate will be vital

    • Patrick Ssekatawa

@ Eric, you’re absolutely right. It’s true that Giroud and Podolski didn’t sparkle, but the doom-spelling media has made the most of it and blown it out of proportion. Shame on them!!!!!!

A striker has no divine right to score in every game, and the Arsenal newbies are no exceptions. I’m surprised that Torres didn’t score and no one even had a mention of that. Ronaldo didn’t score when Real were drawing 1-1 with Valencia and no one said anything. The players I’m talking about are not even new in their teams, so they are expected to have a better understanding in their teams, making them stand in better stead to score goals. Why doesn’t the media talk ill about them? Because they’re not Arsenal players? Ludicrous!! Give Arsenal a break!

Llorente of cource he’s talented and is what we need for title but am not sure about mvila he should get steven nzonzi

  • Emman.b. sunny

I will be very greatful if mr Arsene wenger lead d race 2 sign Llorente, y’mvilla and Nuri sahin,so it will be very good if arsene wenger can do so.mostly, will need 2 more defender

  • Prof. Oyeboh. Razaq

Llorente! Well, if Wenger goes for him, he will get him at a good bargain but whether Wenger wants him is another thing. All i know is that if Wenger doesn’t have his plan ‘B’, he wont have sold Song who was not committed during pre-season. In my own opinion, our strikers are good enough to deliver trophies; and Wenger shares this belief, so the Llorente deal is 50-50 while i am sure M’vila and Sahin are Emirate-bound any moment from now. The deals will happen. Believe.
