Chambo and Frimpong: Wilshere looks as good as ever

| September 21, 2012 | 13 Comments

Long term absentees Jack Wilshere and Emmanuel Frimpong have made their long awaited returns to full training with the Arsenal first-team squad, with Wilshere joining in for the first time in 14 months.

The 20-year-old was sidelined for the entire campaign last season after suffering an ankle stress fracture that was an ongoing issue, followed by a knee problem. But he linked up with the Gunners first team for the first time in over a year on Thursday.

Emmanuel Frimpong has also resumed full training, finally recovering from his second cruciate ligament injury that he sustained while on loan at Wolves in February.

Frimpong and fellow Gunner team-mate Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain shared their appreciation of the English midfielder by taking to twitter:

@Alex_OxChambo said:

Good to have Jack back in training with us today looking as sharp as ever!

while Frimpong stated:

Was soo gd to be back with the lads training today I’m soo happy now just need FIFA clearance so I can play for Ghana it’s been over a year

@Frimpong26AFC Frimmers! How did Jack look in training? Showing much of his former self? #UTA”>> looked like never been away

Arsene Wenger also shared his appreciation for the return of Wilshere, he told Arsenal’s official website:

We are so pleased that Jack is back in full training. It’s been 14 months and that’s a long time for someone at his age. It’s an eternity, but it’s great news.

We have to give him a few training sessions to see how he copes and responds to it. That’s the delicate, sensitive stage – to choose when to bring him in and out. We’ll have to handle that day-by-day.

We also have Emmanuel Frimpong who has returned to full training this week, which is great news as well. Emmanuel has also been out a long time, but is progressing well.

This is massive news for the Gunners to have the two talented youngster back in the first team fold once again. Wilshere will be instrumental for Arsenal’s hopes of silverware this season and will add even further depth to an already strong midfield. He will take some time to be ready for playing first team football but he has been earmarked to play for the U21 side once Wenger gives him the nod.

It is important not to rush him back to action especially with the current midfield trio of Diaby, Cazorla and Arteta working well together and Coquelin and Ramsey itching for gametime themselves. I’d like to see Frimpong leave on loan once he is fully match fit from playing with the U21 side as we have an abundance of midfield options at present, and he could gain some valuable Premier League experience on a temporary basis this season.

What are your thoughts on Wilshere and Frimpong’s return to training? Do you think Frimmy should head out on loan or stick with the Gunners to add some steel to the midfield? Wilshere will most likely be rotated with Diaby once he is ready, with the two Spaniard’s an absolute mainstays in the Arsenal lineup. Feel free to comment below or in allArsenal’s forum under Wilshere’s thread or Frimpong’s!

While I’d like to see Frimpong with the first team, realistically, pragmatically, a loan deal makes the most sense. The question is who? Aston Villa? Everton? What dya think?

S beta dt emma go to loan to development fitness&acquire experience

  • TomJ

I disagree. Coquelin is making noises about leaving if he is not getting the game time, and with the options we have and coming back he is going to get a limited amount of that. I say invest the time in Frimpong, he’s Arsenal through and through

  • Shaf90

Put Rosicky in the mix and we have an awesome midfield. Also Arsene purchase Isco, could make things even more awesome. Could be a replacement for Arshavin or Walcott should they decide to leave.

  • Howard

Coquelin is a potential trouble maker. His recent ‘arrogance is disturbing; seeming to say he’s on the same level with Arteta and Diaby.

The new disloyal Frenchies/African Frenchies ala Nasri, Sagna, Clichy, Ade and Song.

Arsene better concentrates on players with Arsenal DNA.

Good to have both of them back but Wilshere should be given someone time to make full comeback.Loan Frimpong because I don’t see getting enough playing time.

The time has come 4 gunners 2 make their marks, with our midfeild plus d coming back 4rm injuries of frimper n jack wizman d sky is our starting point, wenger should send frimper on loan to any mid table team in the epl to gain some valuable experience cos he is the only defence minded defencive midfeilder we have at present.keep the faith THE RED ARMY OF LONDON

  • TopGunner4Real

I think we should keep Frimpong and not loan him out – We need as many players like him who love the club in the mix at the moment – giving him some game time in cups and when needed in the League!

Great to have Wilshire back – COYG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • BigRedMan

I wouldn’t like to see Frimpomg loaned out again. Taking the game against Montpellier in the week when we needed some energy and bite during the second half, he would have been the ideal sub to come on and try and get us back into it.

  • acherco

i will keep frimp in the squad just in case coquelin decides to go and
besides hes arsenal through and through (he hates the spuds) that’s good enough for me.

  • dadagbon

Finally our midfield KING is back. Welcome to fantasy football.

  • Decee
