Gunners land favourable draw for Capital One Cup as Utd land Chelsea

| September 27, 2012 | 8 Comments

The Gunners chances of winning their first piece of silverware since 2005 has taken a huge boost today by the 6-1 demolition of Coventry City using partially a second string squad, but most importantly Arsenal have landed a favourable draw as they face newly promoted Premier League side Reading while other Premier Leaguers face one another.

Manchester City have already been knocked out, while Chelsea and Manchester United are set to play in the fourth-round meaning Arsenal are even less likely to land a dominant Premier League side.

Not saying that Reading will be a walk over particularly, but you can not deny there is a sense of anticipation and excitement that Arsenal can claim the Capital One Cup if the fixtures continue to fall into place nicely.

Today’s result demonstrated the depth of youth and experience in the Gunners squad with the likes of Djourou and Arshavin struggling to get onto the team sheet on a weekly basis, and exciting youngsters in Gnabry and Yennaris pushing for first team action. So if Wenger continues to utilize these types of players in this competition, Arsenal should be at least claiming one trophy this season.

Full Capital One Cup fourth-round draw:

Sunderland v Middlesbrough
Swindon v Aston Villa
Wigan v Bradford
Leeds v Southampton
Norwich v Tottenham
Liverpool v Swansea
Chelsea v Manchester United
Reading v Arsenal

Who knew Angha would play. I must confess that i’ve never heard of him but apparently he was an ever-present in the Reserves last year. Another name for the list of promising youngsters. We see Song surprisingly leave but then you think has he been missed ? The answer is no and not only that but there are youngsters ready to become the next Alex Song. There are no guarantees and it’s a big step up from Reserve football to Arsenals’ first team but there will a few that make it.
