Wenger: Sagna’s interview does not reflect his love for Arsenal

| September 13, 2012 | 3 Comments

Arsene Wenger is adament that injured Arsenal full-back and French international Bacary Sagna will remain at the club, despite implying otherwise in a recent interview.

The full-back revealed his frustration to L’Equipe towards Arsenal’s recent trend in the transfer market and also that former team-mates were tasting success elsewhere, namely Clichy and Nasri at Manchester City.

The interview prompted the media to raise speculation over the Frenchman’s future, particularly with only two years remaining on his contract.

Wenger is quoted as saying by Goal.com on Sagna:

Bacary loves the club and I think he will stay here.

Bacary’s interview doesn’t reflect the love he has for this club. He has always given full commitment.

You can obviously see where Arsenal are coming from with Sagna now 29 and coming off a second serious leg injury.

In saying this however, here we have a player who is considered the best right-back in the league and one of the most consistent performers in Arsenal’s back-line in recent seasons. It seems perplexing that Arsenal haven’t tried and extend his contract.

What also worries me is that obviously we have heard this kind of statement by Arsene Wenger before. His assurances of player retention isn’t really worth anything until it becomes official the player has signed a contract extension. Is it a case of ‘here we go again?’

What do you guys think? Feel free to leave a comment below or comment on Sagna in the allArsenal.com forums!

Maybe Arsene has finally discovered the machine that measures a players love for the club?

How many times has he said a player is staying, then the next we hear they have been sold.

Words are meaningless Arsene, show us by keeping hold of all your best players.

the truth can hurt and what sagna has said is nothing but the truth. at 29 yrs and playing for arsenal, i doubt medal is near his way unless arsneal improve her wages structure and buy players love. let not forget when it comes to loyalty, players are not like fans they can chose to leave a club at wish, so arsenal must not shy away from their problems with coach wenger talking about love.

This is why I don’t like Wenger as he is never straightforward with fans, his players and himself. Hence his new name Pinocchio!! MARK MY WORDS; SAGNA IS TOAST! Wenger has rolling through his production line the likes of Jenkinson & Yennaris, so bye bye Sagna.
