Arsenal Rumours: The Gunners MUST buy Benteke this summer

| March 21, 2013 | 23 Comments

The Belgian’s ‘golden generation’ are packed with exceptional young talents, two of whom currently ply their trades with two of the Premier League’s less glamours clubs.

We all know about the likes of Vermaelen, Kompany and Vertonghen in the backline, Hazard, Moussa Dembele and Fellaini in midfield but it’s upfront that is of interest to the Gunners.

Romelu Lukaku, Belgium’s answer to Didier Drogba, has been making waves this season on loan with West Brom becoming the highest scoring teenager in the Barclays Premier League since Michael Owen in 1999 after bagging his 13th strike of the season earlier this month. While the Gunners have no chance of signing the highly rated 19-year-old as he’s property of rivals Chelsea, he has called for compatriot Christian Benteke to quit Aston Villa at the end of the season.

Lukaku said:

I hope Christian will make a move to a big club so he can improve his game as well.

The central striker has scored an impressive 22 goals this season in 37 appearances (plus two substitutions) for club and country (including 3 goals while still with Genk), and that is in his first season with struggling Aston Villa who are currently one place above the relegation zone.

The powerful forward, whose market value is £10.5m, scored the winning goal in the Villains vital 3-2 victory over relegation rivals Queens Park Rangers last Saturday, has been tipped for a move away this summer after such a fruitful first season. At 22-years-old the Belgian international seems very good value for money and has the ability to develop into a top, Drogba-esk striker. Someone who can score something out of nothing, powerful in the air, score from distance and play as a lone striker – exactly what the Gunners need.

If they can prize him away from Villa for anywhere around the £15.0m mark then that will represent good business for both clubs especially if Aston Villa go down this season. His young age but experience from playing in the Premier League are vital components of his allure,  it is about time Arsenal robbed a top striker from England’s elite League and not from abroad.

What are your thoughts? Do you rate Benteke high enough to become a classy striker for the Gunners? Feel free to comment below..

He’s not leaving for anything under 20 million. Don’t be ridiculous.

  • Dazza

  • Dazza

And another thing well done spurs!!!!!!!! Get 4th no1 wants to see boring wengers face again and again …. Arsenal are yesterday’s club – fact!!

  • Stoney

Oh the Villans. They went from playing in Europe to playing for relegation within a couple of seasons. Don’t be bitter just accept where you belong and hand over this Belgian kid. Don’t worry we’ll lend you a couple of our younger prospects to help you in the championship next season.

  • Gunner

when Aston Villa will go down (end of this season)Arsenal can get him for £5 m.

  • George

He has epl experience and is not some upcoming kid.I don’t know whther is better than the ones linked with Arsenal.Of course it’s gamble.

  • gwentvillan

ah… the Gunners. Best Stadium in the UK hsame you’ve got the 5 or 6th best team in the Premier League. For this privilege you pay 10 times the price of my Villa season ticket.

Our team will get better not sure about yours.

Should have built the team first then get the stadium.

    • Dominic

Perhaps we do pay more (10 times more?) but we still get far better value for money than watching Villa. If you believe in the Hindu doctrine of Re-incarnatrion then Villa supporters must have been very bad in their previous existences.

  • Villafan

He wants to play for a big club arsenal are like Liverpool ie yesterday’s team nowadays. He will go for at least 20m no way can arsenal compete with the might of city utd or Chelsea anymore from a financial point if view. You are like us a selling club nowadays. Even thou benteke wants to play for arsenal the reality is teams like city can double the salary you could offer him in the blink of an eye. That’s modern football nowadays and u can’t blame him for going where he can triple his wages.

  • Dam

He is nt wat we nid at this time,an experienced unpredictable CF who can end games is who arsenal nids,2 compliment d experiences n work rate of mert at d CD,arteta in DM,carzola up midfield, sure poldoski can do beta.jovetic n raina, only wat arsenal need.

I wish wenger sign benteke i watched playing many games he’s better than demba ba, he’s the black rooney bcos the way he plays. U can c him every corner f da pitch, really hard-workin and gud finisher, but remember spurs’ll defeat us in his signature, we always scout 4 them for free. Gunner4life. Someone save our beloved fro greedy guys.

    “whose market value is £10.5m.”

I’m sorry, but that’s where I stoppped reading.

I quite like Arsenal, but this article is written by someone living in cloud-cuckoo land.

He is contracted until August 2016. Even if we go down, there is no way we will let him go for that sort of money.
Lukako went to Chelsea for £10-17 (with add-ons) mill as an unproven prem player and Benteke is playing in a team that has massively struggled this season.
I’m absolutely certain Lambert will play hardball on this one and you would be talking nearer £20 mill.

    Not worth it?
    Go whistle then.

And you’d better hope that Man Citeh aren’t looking at him (which chances are, they are), as they’ll probably offer him double the wages you will, sad to say.

  • Villan

    I forgot.
We paid £7 mill + for him.

That’s why the quoted £10.5 mill is an utter joke.

  • goalie1979

What makes people think Benteke would fit with Arsenal’s style of play? He has NO first touch–feet of stone! Don’t any of these self proclaimed pundits watch this fellow play? West Ham perhaps, but Arsenal?!

  • Dave M

Am I the only one that thinks Benteke is not good enough? We need someone like Villa.

  • Dgob

I think we (AFC) need to go double Belgian in the Summer. Benteke and Fellaini plus another (hopefully) superior keeper and we’re set to resume our rightful place at the head of British football.

Fingers crossed, but I know Arsene will have other options and potentially other views.

“Am I the only one that thinks Benteke is not good enough?”

You’re probably not – but you should be!

  • Scud

Hands off… Sick of the media, agents and professional footballers unsettling players during what I would call the most important games for Villa to secure their premier league status. Villa took a chance on Benteke… So Arsernal should go and find themselves another striker.. I didn’t see any other big club sign him from Gent. Villa stay up.. Benteke to stay as he is the fans favorite along with Weiman. They have become a good strike duo!

I’m not being funny but this kid wants to win things, Arsenal don’t win anything and if you don’t make the top 4 this season then you’re a mid table side. I would bet my left testicle on him not going to the Emirates.

Dazza Tottenham will forever be the second best in north London and that’s a FACT!
