Arsenal Rumour Roundup: Higuain & Fabregas latest

| June 12, 2013 | 6 Comments

The Gunners hopes of signing Gonzalo Higuain has potentially taken a blow with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez warning potential suitors that the striker will not be allowed to leave for anything less than £25m.

It is now common knowledge that the Argentine forward will leave this summer, however the La Liga side have slapped a hefty pricetag to maximize their profits as they hope to bring in either/both of Spurs star Gareth Bale and Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.

The Gunners are in the market for a top quality striker to add to their ranks to compete with Olivier Giroud, however they face tough competition from Italian giants Juventus who also are believed to be chasing the 25-year-old forward.

But Perez has sent out a strict statement to all interested parties- a bid less than £25m will not even be considered, meaning the Gunners would have to smash their transfer record by at least £10m to get a look in. reported the president told Mediaset when quizzed on the rumoured Juve rumours:

If Juventus are thinking about offering €30m [£25m] for him then it would be better if they don’t even turn up because that will not be enough.

But we have not yet received any offers for Gonzalo and that is including Juventus.

For those who have been living under a rock for the past .. ages, Wenger is notoriously stingy and stubborn in the transfer market. Some of the players we have missed out on over the last few years have come back to bite us in the butt (eg: Juan Mata) because we failed to stump up the cash. This summer will apparently be different, so if that’s true then Arsenal should have no qualms over buying such a top talent as Higuain. In the scheme of other top Premier League club’s expenditure, £25m on a proven talent is hardly overpriced.

So I say get him Wenger! Get in ahead of those sneaky Italians.

Next up – Cesc Fabregas. The Spaniard has been all over the football headlines once again with the media believing he is interested in switching Barcelona for Manchester United (haha) or Arsenal.

The attacking midfielder has endured a tough time since his returning to his boyhood club two years ago and Gooners alike have been calling for the re-signing of their former talismanic captain. But the 26-year-old has squashed any rumours of an exit this summer as he wants to make the grade at Barcelona and challenge himself.

The Express reported Fabregas as stating:

It has taken a lot for me to get where I am – and I am not thinking about throwing it all away for nothing.

If Barcelona said that they didn’t want me, that would be another thing. But what I truly want is to triumph at Barcelona. That’s been my dream since I was a kid.

The way in which some people always invent things is fascinating. If people boo me then I will have to cope with that.

It was a bit of a long shot that he would return this summer, however if things do not pan out well for Cesc then perhaps a return to North London will be on the cards next summer. He went to the Nou Camp for the challenge and to develop as a player, unfortunately the often sporadic playing time has since dented his reputation as one of the best midfielders in Europe but his quality is still there for all to see.

The selfish side of me hopes he has even less opportunities next season with the arrival of Neymar, however if he plays more often and remains in Catalonia then maybe we can get Thiago Alcantara instead?

While i think he would be a quality addition why aren’t we sniffing around players like lamela?? Best player in Italy right now… a long way. If Wenger is capable of swooning over el-sharawary(forgive the spelling?) why not lamela…..
I wanna see lamela in an arsenal shirt….
sure Walcott would make a good bargaining chip. He seems well liked in Italy….
We should start the rumour mill…….say it with me….lamela, lamela, lamela.
Come arsene spend some money money ON QUALITY…

Wenger isn’t ‘stingy’…. he hasn’t had any decent money to spend until now. Have some patience, nobody knows what is going on behind the scenes….. A few days ago Perez was telling everyone how he was happy to sell Higuain for £22 million. It’s not easy dealing with these sharks.

Keep on dreamin’ gooners because his won’t comin’ shortly. Maybe it isn’t Cesc position who will threat by Neymar, but it’s on Pedro or Sanchez role. Nice idea to sneak on pity Alcantara. How long he can wait on the deadwood, watching Xavi and Cesc play his favour. Such an almost wasted talent.
