OFFICIAL: Arsenal target Demba Ba signs for Chelsea
Arsenal target Demba Ba has officially been transferred from Newcastle to Chelsea labeling the move as an easy decision regarding the club as on a another level in comparison to his former employers.
Ba made a huge impact at Newcastle and it certainly became predictable that he would move to a bigger and better club sooner or later after scoring 16 goals in his debut season at St. James’ Park.
Ba is quoted as saying by ESPN on his move to Chelsea:
When the club who won the Champions League wants you, the decision making is very easy. This club is massive and that’s something that helped the decision a lot. It was not a hard one.
It was important for me and for Newcastle to get my future sorted and now we can move on. Now they have the whole month to buy someone and for me as well, the sooner the better. Now I am here I just need to get settled in.
This club is at another level. It isn’t West Ham or Newcastle. They are both big clubs with a strong history, but Chelsea is Chelsea and you cannot compare. It will be easier with world-class players around, who make the football look so easy.
I hope they can create a lot of chances for me when I play. I have watched some replays of some games to see how the team is playing and hopefully it will be good.
Yesterday I was looking back and smiling to myself, saying, ‘Yes, I’ve done it’, and I feel very proud to be here. Proud not only for me but the people who supported me over the years – my agent, for instance, who has been there since I was 15.
In two years now in the Premier League I have learned a lot and I keep learning. I just want to keep playing football and trying to score goals. I try to be strong mentally. This is a big part of the success of someone. If you are strong mentally then you have good chances to succeed.
Wenger revealed that Ba was an Arsenal target back in the summer and although Arsenal ultimately chose Olivier Giroud over the Senegalese striker, rumours again began swirling linking Ba with a January move to Arsenal.
While his move to Arsenal could be considered somewhat of a blow, personally the recent news of Spurs securing Lewis Holtby was much more disappointing.
Ba aside, there are still other transfer targets out there with high profile Spanish striker David Villa linked and Athletico Madrid striker Adrian Lopez another rumoured transfer target.
What do you guys think? Have Arsenal missed out on a gem in Ba or are there much better players out there Arsenal could go for? Feel free to leave a comment below or discuss Ba in the allArsenal.com forums!

If Ba’s knees are fine, this was a horrible mistake by Wenger. On the other hand, it’s better the Chavs signed Ba than Falcao or Cavani.
If this means Wenger will fork out some money to sign Villa, it’s OK.

Wenger’s failure to sign Ba is an epitome of his bad judgement when it comes to closing transfer deals. The knee injury is a flimsy excuse, Diaby/Arteta are always injury prone yet Wenger relied on them to cover loss of Alex Song. RVP is also injury prone but Fergie still signs him because he knows he can make instant impact and difference. Even David Villa who is Arsenal target has history of injury woes at his age. I hope whoever Wenger finally sign will not ages to adapt in order to deliver for AFC as far as the PL is concerned. Let’s hope for the best from the myopic Professor.
