Who will be Arsenal’s captain this weekend?

General Mertesacker – Set to be the Gunners captain against Brighton?
The Gunners are set to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup this Saturday and will do so without captain Thomas Vermaelen, who suffered an ankle injury against West Ham and vice-captain Mikel Arteta who is still currently sidelined.
With midfield rotation on the cards for Wenger it is likely that Abou Diaby will return in place of Jack Wilshere who is a candidate for Gunners captaincy further down the line, and Aaron Ramsey will quite likely continue in his favoured central midfield position but perhaps in a more advanced role in order to rest Cazorla – the Welshman has already lead Wales with the armband despite being only 22. Emmanuel Frimpong could feature too, however he is as far away from being captain than Arsene Wenger is from wearing a DENCH t-shirt to a game.
The position where we should be looking is in the centre of defence. Johan Djourou was named captain on a few occasions while featuring in the Capital One Cup with many senior members were rested, but for this cup tie the partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny seems a given with Wenger unlikely to rotate a centre-half pairing especially after the Bradford match where the defending was extremely sloppy and the Frenchman won’t be taking Brighton lightly. The man we can almost safely assume that will take the armband against the Championship side will have to be Mertesacker, especially with his role as ‘fines master’ within the club as it was leaked the other day which enforces his senior role within the club.
The Sack has been the captain at his former side Werder Bremen, and will most likely lead the Gunners out of the tunnel against Brighton on Saturday. Do you agree? Feel free to comment below..

The point being made is that JW is likely to be rested, so who’s going to be passed the armband in TV, MA and his absence?

Daniel, would you prefer Evans? Or Jones? Or Carragher? Or Gallas? Or Kaboul?
Per’s right up there with the very best on the continent. It’s not even sad, or a problem that you (and your retarded kind) don’t realise that, the important is that the boss does.

When you talk of captaincy, you need someone who commands d respect of his team mates. Someone who leads by example and is brave in pointing to others’ flaws. Per is the right man for the armband.

It might be a bit preemptive to suggest Jack will have a rest against Brighton

Not only for the Brighton match and regardless of the German as new comer to the team he deserve to be our next captain, he poses all the qualities to lead a team and he has experience of being a leader in his former team. I strongly accept the German to lead our team today.
