Gunners summer signing Olivier Giroud is happy to get off the mark in the Premier League after his fine finish against West Ham United, and believes he can “start his adventure” at Arsenal now.
His first goal for the club was a tidy finish against Coventry City in the Capital One Cup, but the pressure was still on for him to score at the top level in the League and he did so in style.
A one-two with Podolski ended with a superb ball from the German and Giroud diving in front of the helpless goalkeeper turning the ball inside the post – bringing Arsenal the equalizer they were looking for.
Now that he has managed to break his duck he is looking forward to the season and believes the Gunners can have something to say in the the title race.
The France international told Arsenal Player:
I’m very happy to have scored and that we won. It was a difficult game against a very good team, who play well at home.
We were better in the second half and [were able] to play through their lines. I think we finished the game better.
I feel relieved now. It was very important for me to score in the Premier League, to keep going and start my adventure here with Arsenal.
We had a bad one against Chelsea last week. It was important to go in front and to win [against West Ham].
We’ll keep going and stay confident for the future. I think we have a very interesting role in this championship.
Giroud was instrumental in the comeback and played overall a solid game. He is a useful centre forward as he holds up the ball well and distributes, as well as winning the aerial battles offensively and defensively.
The 26-year-old was unlucky once again with various deflections earlier in the match when he got into promising situations, and he seems like the player who will score often once he gets his eye in as his movement and position is very good.
He may be receiving a bit of stick from the media to replace Van Persie, but he makes the Gunners less one dimensional and brings the midfield into the match more.
