Gunners starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has revealed it was an easy decision to move to the Emirates over Old Trafford last summer as the 19-year-old loves Arsenal’s style and the talent that is nurtured here.
Wenger had to battle for the former Southampton ace’s signature in August 2011 with Manchester United, however the England international had already made up his mind and always preferred Arsenal.
He told Sport Magazine:
I always favoured Arsenal.
It’s a massive club and I’ve loved the way they’ve played football and brought players through.
When I was younger I used to go and watch Southampton versus Arsenal when they came to the club and loved watching Thierry Henry.
I went to the Emirates a few times, too, and the atmosphere was just unbelievable. So it wasn’t a hard decision for me.
It was a bit surprising [that Arsenal and Manchester United wanted to sign me] at first, because I used to watch all these clubs on Match of the Day every week and dream of coming to a massive club like Arsenal.
But my parents never let me get carried away, and at the same time I had a lot of respect for all my teammates at Southampton.
Arsene Wenger has done a fantastic job of branding Arsenal with a name for developing young talent, and once again it has managed to lure a future world class player ahead of other top clubs.
Chamberlain was a brilliant acquisition that raised many eyebrows last summer at time when the likes of Fabregas and Nasri left. But he is going to be a big player for Arsenal and England in the future, and this season he will get the opportunity to impress as the talented midfielder is pushing Theo Walcott for a starting spot in the Gunners lineup.
Many Gooners are hugely satisfied that the starlet choose Arsenal over United and he will make Fergie envious when he tears them apart next month!
