Wenger would have “signed” for five point cushion

Arsene Wenger is pleased with the five point gap his side have opened up at the top of the Premier League, claiming he would have “signed” for their position prior to Arsenal’s rich run of form.

The Gunners almost stretched their lead to seven points had they held onto their 1-0 lead against Everton, however the Toffee’s equalized and shared the points.

While Wenger is disappointed with missing out on the win, he praised Everton’s performance and is pleased with their lead at the summit of the Premiership, something that seemed inconceivable during the early stages of the new season.

A mixture of strong results from the Gunners and their rivals dropping valuable points has seen Wenger’s men lead Liverpool by five points – a lead the Frenchman would have signed for a few weeks back.

The Arsenal boss told Arsenal Player:

Of course we would have signed for that a few weeks ago but we are a bit disappointed.

This team has a great spirit and fight in every single game. We have a good cushion so let’s prepare for the next one.

It was a great game. Overall maybe a draw is logical but the regret I have is that we were 1-0 up and couldn’t keep a clean sheet until the end.

It took us time to get into the game but after our desire to win and our attitude got us back into the game. But Everton is a good side as well and overall it was a good 1-1.

They [Everton] had quality going forward. We were a bit caught on the crosses, and on the flanks – that can happen.

I cannot fault my defence but you just have to give credit to the offensive quality of Everton.

The result against Everton seemed more of a point gained rather than two dropped especially after the first half pressure from the visitors.

The defensive solidity helped keep the Gunners in the game but unfortunately they were unable to extend their clean sheet run after some individual brilliance from Deulofeu.

Arsenal now turn their attentions to their tough run of fixtures against Napoli in midweek, City this weekend followed by Chelsea. They must gain as many points as possible and use their five point lead as inspiration rather than complacency.

Am i the only person who has been noticing the amount of time carzola / ozil / wilsher / ramsey have been cluttering the middle? Meaning everytime they look to the wide areas more than 70% of the time they have to pass the ball the same way it just came from which teams such as everton were able to exploit it? Playing 4 central midfielders is slowing down the gunner counter attack. There were at least 12 chances to counter in the everton game problem there wasn’t enough width and no wheres to play the ball out wide which then slowed the game down again. Please tell me im not the only one noticing this?
